Tully Named Basic Skills Instructor of the Year

Ellen Tully of Hickory was named Basic Skills Instructor of the Year by her colleagues.

She started teaching English as a Second Language at CVCC eight years ago.  She has worked with students from all over the globe and of all learning levels.

Tully was one of the first in the state to become Level II Credentialed in Basic Skills by the North Carolina Community College System.

She was the first CVCC instructor to teach adult basic skills to ESL students. The college developed the course as a way for students who were not ready for GED preparation or college credit courses to advance.

Tully earned a bachelor’s degree in music. She is certified as an advanced level Orton-Gillingham tutor for dyslexia. She and her husband and family live in Hickory.
