Enrolling For Summerscapes Camps for Ages 5-16 Through August

Enrollment is under way for week-long, special-interest classes for children. Offered June through August, classes are divided into age groups, begin each Monday and end on Thursday unless otherwise noted.
 
Subjects include arts and crafts, sports, music, photography, computer skills and much more. The fee for a single class is $60 unless noted. For a complete list of offerings, visit www.cvcc.edu/Summerscapes/.
 
Summerscapes classes offered June 21-24:
 
Adventures in Reading - 8:30 a.m. to noon, for rising 1st and 2nd graders. Students will read great books and work on interesting projects, discovering the love of reading while having fun. The instructor is Delona Balis.
 
Art Explosion - 1 to 4:30 p.m., for rising 4th and 5th graders. Students will explore art through different mediums and have fun using their imagination to create various projects. The instructor is Tania Sherrill.
 
Babysitting 101 - 9 a.m. to noon, for ages 11-15 instructed by Amy Cable. Students will learn basics of childcare, age appropriate games and toys, tips on preventing problems, basic first aid, and will have the opportunity to earn their CPR certification.

Cartooning-Beginning to Advanced - 8:30 a.m. to noon, for ages 9 to 14 instructed by Randy Bell. Students will learn terminology related to cartooning, e.g. caricatures, caption, etc. No art skills required.
 
Digital Photography - 8:30 a.m. to noon, for rising 4th and 5th graders. The instructor is Joe Young. This class introduces students to digital photography, image manipulation,  photographic techniques, camera operation and editing using software program Photoshop will be covered. Students must have their own digital camera. The fee is $70.
 
Math Adventures - 8:30 a.m. to noon, for rising 4th and 5th graders. Students will explore math concepts through math games and other fun activities. Concepts reviewed will include geometry, multiplication and division facts and fractions. The instructor will be Tania Sherrill.
 
Math Camp - 1 to 4:30 p.m., for rising 1st and 2nd graders. This class will make math fun with various hands-on activities, games and projects while strengthening math skills. The instructor will be Delona Balis.
 
Painting with Acrylics - 1 to 4:30 p.m. for ages 10-16. Students will explore the use of acrylic paint, learn color blending and still life, and will finish with students creating their own painting and developing their own painting style. The instructor is Randy Bell.
 
Soccer for Boys & Girls-Beginning - 8:30 a.m. to noon, for ages 6 to 12. The instructor is Steve Morgan. This course is designed to introduce, teach and develop basic soccer skills.
 
Tennis Camp for Beginners - 8 to 9:30 a.m. for ages 5 to 9. This class will use games and activities for learning to play tennis. The instructor is Doug Eller. Students must provide the racket and the fee is $40.
 
Tennis Camp for Beginners - 9:30 a.m. to noon, for ages 10 to 14. This class will cover the fundamentals of tennis, including strokes, serve and return-of-serve, volley, scoring and playing procedures. The instructor is Doug Eller. Students must provide a racket.
 
Volleyball Camp for Girls-Beginning - 8:30 a.m. to noon, for ages 9 to 12. The instructor will be Beth Hine and the class will be held at the Newton Recreation Department. This introductory class will cover volleyball skills such as passing, setting, attack, serving and defense.
 
Volleyball Training for Girls-Intermediate & Advanced - 1 to 4:30 p.m. for ages 12 to 14. This class is for girls preparing for recreational or school volleyball tryouts and will cover advanced techniques in court movement, position, hitting, setting and passing. The instructor will be Beth Hine and the class will be held at the Newton Recreation Department.
