CVCC Students Win State Titles in SkillsUSA Championship
Catawba Valley Community College students recently took home several titles in the North Carolina SkillsUSA competition.
SkillsUSA is an applied method of instruction for preparing America's high performance workers enrolled in career and technical programs. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills. It emphasizes total quality at work-high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education, and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free-enterprise system and involvement in community service.
Joe Ward of Maiden won the state championship in the Air Conditioning, Heating, & Refrigeration competition. Reggie Deal of Hickory placed second in the state in the Air Conditioning, Heating, & Refrigeration competition.
Dylan Pike of Hickory won second place and Bradley Stillwell of Rhodhiss won third place in the Welding competition. Lloyd Cable of Hickory also competed in the Welding competition.
Bobby Smith of Connelly Springs, Marc Labore of Morganton, Johnny Orren of Taylorsville, and Carlos Sandoval of Maiden competed in the automotive competition.
