Homegrown Teaching Scholars Applications Available

The Homegrown Teaching Scholars (HTS) Program of Catawba Valley Community College is currently accepting applications for the 2010-11 academic year.
HTS is a collaborative effort involving CVCC and the Alexander County, Hickory City, Catawba County, and Newton-Conover City school systems.  The program's primary goal is to recruit the "best and brightest" local candidates for the teaching profession and provide them support and encouragement throughout their college careers.
Students accepted as Homegrown Teaching Scholars will attend CVCC for their first two years of study and then transfer to a four-year university to complete their education.  Depending upon the availability of funds, the area public school systems offer HTS participants who qualify some financial assistance during their first two years in the program. In exchange for that assistance, students must agree to teach in the county of their residence (Alexander or Catawba County).
Persons interested in submitting an application or in learning more about the HTS program can visit and click on "Homegrown Teaching Scholars,"  then click on "Apply" to download an application.
For more information, contact Dianne Little, HTS director, at 828-327-7000, ext. 4411, or
All applications must be delivered to the office of the director no later than Thurs., April 15, 2010.
