Six Volleyball Players Signed for '10

 

Six women recently signed letters of intent to play for the Catawba Valley Community College Lady Bucs volleyball team next fall.


“Each of these young ladies had much success in their high school careers and I am certain that they will have a tremendous impact at the collegiate level,” said head coach Shannon Hudson.  “Last year, our team continued the winning tradition for Lady Buc’s Volleyball at CVCC, and with a dynamite combination of experienced returners and talented freshman, I anticipate that we will be even stronger this year.  I am looking forward to the opportunity to coach each of these great athletes and watch them continue to excel on and off the court.”


The new recruits include Chelsea Stutesman, a hitter from Fred T. Ford High School, where she was named All-Conference. The daughter of Gary and Lisa Stutesman of Vale, she plans to enroll in the college transfer program.


Carolyn Houser, a setter from North Gaston High School in Dallas, signed with the Lady Bucs. An MVP, Houser also received the Coach's Choice Award and was named All-Conference. The daughter of Chris and Lisa Houser, she plans to enroll in the dental hygiene associate degree program.


Erin Collins, a hitter from East Burke High School, signed with the Lady Bucs. Named All-Conference, MVP and Offensive MVP, Collins plans to enroll in the college transfer program. She is the daughter of Herb and Angie Collins. 


Alannya Meroney, a defensive player from East Burke High School, signed with the Lady Bucs. The daughter of Tim and Aleshia Merone of Ickard, Meroney is currently enrolled in the accounting associate degree program.


Savannah Rhyne, a hitter from North Lincoln High School who was named indoor track MVP, signed with the Lady Bucs. A Denver resident and the daughter of Mark and Bonita Rhyne, she plans to enroll in the nursing associate degree program.


Megan Clark, a hitter from Hibriten High School, signed with the Lady Bucs. She was named All County, All-Conference, Player of the Year and was a member of the National Honor Society. Daughter of Kim Clark, the Lenoir resident plans to study criminal justice.


Coach Shannon Hudson was named the 2009 NJCAA District Coach of the Year.
