Galen Abdur-Razzaq Performs at Multicultural Celebration 2-23-10

Jazz recording artist Galen Abdur-Razzaq is the featured entertainer and speaker at Catawba Valley Community College’s annual Multicultural Celebration in Honor of Black History Tues., Feb. 23.

The CVCC celebration is held each year to recognize the cultural heritage and contributions to the community as a result of diversity.

A talented jazz flautist, Abdur-Razzaq performs at college and university campuses across the country. A former student at Burklee College of Music in Boston, he graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He also holds a master’s degree in fine arts and education. An arranger, composer, music director, educator and writer, he has performed with renowned artists such as Billy Taylor, Melba Moore, John Patton, Jimmy Heath, and many others. Abdur-Razzaq is also a speaker on jazz and its historical significance. 

Additional entertainment will be provided by the Challenger Early College High School Percussion Ensemble and Dancers and combined church choirs directed by Raymond Hollis Jr.

Partners making this year’s event possible are CVCC’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, the CVCC Foundation, Inc., United Arts Council of Catawba County, Lenoir-Rhyne University and Ridgeview Branch Library.

There is no admission charge.
