EMPLOYEE INFORMATION AND TRAINING
Prior to initial task assignment, all permanent and temporary employees will be informed and trained concerning the potential hazards of the chemicals to which they may be exposed.
Catawba Valley Community College provides training to employees whenever new hazardous chemicals are introduced to the workplace, added to the Hazardous Chemicals Inventory, and before non-routine tasks that could involve exposure to hazardous chemicals are performed.
Employees are responsible to review possible hazards with the Supervisor before engaging in non-routine tasks. Routine tasks are those which are performed on a daily or weekly basis (i.e. cleaning, mopping, yard work). Non-routine tasks are those which are performed less frequently (i.e. stripping waxed floors, spraying insecticides or herbicides). When non-routine tasks involving new or infrequently-used chemicals are assigned, the employee and supervisor, together, shall:

The extent of information provided to employees during annu
al training sessions will be dictated by the degree of hazard presented by the chemicals. Basic elements of the training program include:
Prior to beginning any task, all contractors shall contact Catawba Valley Community College in order to adequately inform their employees of any chemical hazards in their assigned work areas. Contractors shall be provided all necessary information concerning the potential hazards of the substances to which they may be exposed. This shall include appropriate protective measures required to minimize their exposure.

Outside contractors shall provide Catawba Valley Community College a list of any hazardous substances brought on site, along with Material Safety Data Sheets for those hazardous substances.
