Equal Employment Opportunity Statement

Catawba Valley Community College realizes an obligation to comply with various laws and regulations concerning equality of employment opportunity.  The enactment of federal legislation including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and the Equal Pay Act, as well as the court-ordered desegregation of North Carolina institutions of higher education create basic legal requirements that Catawba Valley Community College is committed to meet.

CVCC considers the noble goal of equal opportunity for employees and applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or age to be more than an obligation.  Rather, it is an end result that will be actively pursued because of its intrinsic worth in a country in which all should have an equal chance to let their ability guide their life choice.

Catawba Valley Community College is not presently a federal contractor and thereby subject to the Affirmative Action requirements of Executive Order 11246 as amended by 11375.  Nevertheless, the College recognizes a need to take steps that will not only maintain open doors but will, as well, usher in qualified women and minorities.  While we do not intend to bestow an advantage to any person because of race or sex, the College will take positive efforts to recruit, hire, train, and promote women and members of minority groups.

Furthermore, all personnel actions are expected to be conducted on a non-discriminatory basis.  Relevant personnel policy here includes compensation, benefits, education transfer, and social and recreation programs.

The Affirmative Action Plan for Catawba Valley Community College mentions specific reports that will aid in monitoring the College's progress toward ensuring equal opportunity.  The evaluation of these reports and the overall implementation of the plan are the responsibility of the director of human resources.

The responsibility and success of the Affirmative Action Plan rests to a great degree on all employees of this College, for discrimination can appear at each level of administration, faculty, and staff.  It is expected that all personnel at Catawba Valley Community College will work toward the principle of equal opportunity without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, and within the framework of the federal law regarding age discrimination.
